3D Motion remaster for natural 3D movement

This new technology solves the problem caused by a phenomenon called the Mach-Dvorak effect, which occurs in many systems during 3D viewing. The active shutter 3D system displays left-eye and right-eye images alternately, allowing images that were captured at the same instant to show with a time lag. During the time lag, the viewer's brain automatically speculates and forms an image at a position that differs from the actual image shown, especially in a scene in which the object moves quickly and horizontally across the screen. This results in incorrect depth perception and makes the horizontal movement appear unnatural. 3D Motion remaster technology achieves smooth moving 3D images by creating properly positioned images to compensate for the time lag.

The projector is able to show the right and left image side-by-side to check if the two sides have the same colours. With the Waveform monitor displayed, you can adjust the contrast, brightness, colour and tint as desired, and up to 3 adjustment settings can be stored in memory for instant recall. This function displays waveforms to show how the projector has adjusted the images of the input signals sent from the source device. In cases where the output level of the source device fluctuates, you can view the waveform on-screen and adjust the settings both automatically and manually. In cases where the characteristics of the output signal from the source device are distorted, viewing the waveform can make it easier for you to adjust the picture so it looks just the way the director intended.

3D Viewing monitor (Adjust depth-of-field)

The projection size for viewing 3D images can be selected from among 9 different sizes, ranging from 40 to 200 inches diagonally.*¹ The parallax adjustment monitor function automatically detects and adjusts the amount of parallax in the left eye and right eye 3D input signals. As well, the 3D Viewing monitor ensures the depth of field is within the comfortable zone with a graphical representation and makes adjustments accordingly. Monitor display modes can be selected.

*¹ Projection size for 2D images covers from 40 inches to 300 inches diagonally.

Built-in 3D IR transmitter

The PT-AE8000 comes equipped with a built-in 3D IR transmitter. The IR signals for controlling the 3D eyewear transmitted from the 3D IR transmitter reach the 3D eyewear after being reflected by the screen. The communication range between the 3D IR transmitter and 3D eyewear is a maximum distance of 6 m (approx. 18'9” feet).*¹*²

*¹ The communication range may differ depending on the type and material of the screen; as well as strong light, such as sunlight and fluorescent lamps. *² For an increased range of up to 10 m (approx. 33 feet), an optional infrared transmitter (ET-TRM110) is available.

Frame Creation 2 (Motion blur reduction in 3D / 2D viewing)

A double-speed display greatly improves the clarity of motion images. In addition, “Frame Creation 2” interpolates one new frame for each existing frame by analyzing the characteristics of the adjacent frames to reproduce sharp and clear images for fast moving scenes in sports and action movies. For 24p signal input, four frames are calculated and interpolated for each existing frame, to enable 5x speed (120 Hz) display.

Frame sequential technology (Precisely tuned 3D projection)

Panasonic uses full HD frame sequential technology to create its 3D images. Images recorded at 1,920 x 1,080 pixels for both the right-eye and left-eye alternately flash on the screen at the ultra-high rate of 120 frames per second. When you view the screen through active-shutter glasses, that open and close each lens in sync with the alternating images, you see breathtaking FULL HD 3D pictures with stunning power and realism.

LCD Panels (480 Hz) and Overdrive technology

Although it is inherently difficult to attain brightness in 3D images while minimizing crosstalk, the PT-AE8000 achieves both bright and comfortable 3D images by the incorporation of 480 Hz driven LCD panels and Panasonic's original high-precision overdrive technology. The 480 Hz driven LCD panels lengthen the time that the shutter is open, about 1,5 times the duration of a 240 Hz drive system. With original overdrive technology, brightness is improved thru the 3D eyewear by accurately detecting the information for each of the right eye and left eye images. Panasonic is able to minimize double images (crosstalk), which results in clear, comfortable 3D viewing and it feels as though you're totally immersed in the picture.

Advanced gamma adjustments

The gamma curve can be controlled, allowing for precise calibration according to the signal source and environment. Brightness (Y), R, G and B can each be adjusted at any of the 15 points. Adjustment point positions can be shifted both up and down to bring out the desired gradation level.

The colour correction system enables free colour control in two different modes. The Point colour correction mode lets you pick a point in the image and adjust that colour without affecting the neighbouring colours. The six colour correction mode enables independent adjustment of red, green, blue, cyan, magenta and yellow. Adjustment is possible for either 2D or 3D viewing.

Detail clarity processor 4

This function analyzes the frequency of the video signal in each scene and extracts information on the distribution of the high-, medium-, and low frequency image components. It then applies appropriate sharpness to each portion of the image based on the extracted information. This brings greater clarity and sharpness to details, by reproducing fine nuances that were lost due to image compression. The resulting images, 3D or 2D, have a more natural, lifelike expression than those of previous image-processing methods.

Dynamic Iris PRO

The Dynamic iris helps provide the deeper, richer blacks you need for true-to-life images. This system works by analyzing histograms to determine the brightness level of each image, then it adjusts the lamp power, iris and gamma curve*¹ accordingly to create the ideal image. The adjustments are made virtually frame-by-frame. This helps the projector achieve a wide dynamic range with swift smoothness for added beauty in both dark and bright scenes. *¹ Parameters for adjusting the output brightness gradation level according to the output signal.

Full HD optimized optical system

To assure maximum clarity in full HD images, the projector employs a full HD compatible lens unit comprising 16 lens elements in 12 groups, including 2 large diameter aspherical lenses and 2 high performance ED (extra low dispersion) lenses. Each lens is carefully aligned to assure a uniform focusing balance from the centre to the edges of the screen. The resulting high quality images are clear and free of distortion and colour bleeding.

Up to six settings can be stored in Lens memory, including zoom and focus positions for projecting in the normal 16 : 9 or 4 : 3 image ratio, and wide cinema projection settings. These memories can be recalled manually or can be set for automatic switching. The projector is able to detect 2.35 : 1 and 16 : 9 source and retrieve the stored setting automatically. The Lens memory function lets you easily enjoy images with different image ratios on a wide 2.35 : 1 screen for an immersive movie, theatre-like experience.

Picture modes

You can use these preset parameter settings to optimize image projection according to image source or projection environment.

Pure colour filter PRO

Our projectors are equipped with a specially developed optical filter that optimizes the light from the UHM projector lamp, helping to achieve deeper blacks, while improving purity levels in the three primary colours (red, green and blue) that compose the image. This advanced filter system improves colour purity to cover a range that extends from the HDTV standard (Rec. 709 mode)*¹ to the colour gamut used in digital cinema.*² To viewers at home, this means you see the kind of bright, vibrant colours and deep, rich blacks that make for great entertainment. *¹ A setting that supports the 6,500K color temperature recommended in the HDTV standard (ITU-R BT.709). *² PT-AE8000: Specifications put forth by the Society of Motion Picture and Television Engineers (SMPTE) RP431-2.

The Pure contrast plates in the PT-AE8000 uses a high precision crystalline material that is carefully matched to the characteristics of the LCD panels to effectively correct the passage of light exiting the panels. This enables the projector to block unwanted light leakage and successfully increase the dynamic range. It works together with the Pure Colour Filter Pro and Dynamic Iris Pro to achieve an astounding contrast ratio of 500,000 : 1.

Red rich lamp

The newly engineered lamp successfully adds red luminance, and enables the projector to produce brighter images with excellent colours.

Smooth screen technology

Smooth Screen is a Panasonic technology that uses crystal double refraction to arrange pixels on a screen without gaps between them. This reduces the black-line between pixels that mars picture quality, giving you vivid and 3D-like smooth images you see in a movie theatre.

Split adjust mode

You can freeze any scene you wish, and then make adjustments while easily comparing the original image and the adjusted image side-by-side.

2x zoom lens / wide lens shift

If the projector is not positioned right in front of the center of the screen, you can adjust the projected image position by moving the lens shift dials within the shift range of the lens. The image can be shifted ±100% vertically and ±26% horizontally.

Long lamp replacement cycle

The proprietary lamp drive system helps maintain lamp performance resulting in a cycle of 5,000 hours*¹ without a lamp or filter replacement. For easier maintenance, you can replace the filter from the side and the lamp from the top. The dust filter and lamp are easily replaced even after the projector is installed on the ceiling. *¹ Lamp mode set to ECO. The lamp replacement cycle is 4,000 hours when the lamp mode is set to NORMAL. A maximum value when the lamp is used in cycles of being turned on for 2 hours and off for 0.25 hours. When the lamp is turned on and off more frequently, the lamp replacement cycle is shortened.

The PT-AE8000 has 3 HDMI inputs for digital transmission without image degradation. The HDMI inputs also support Deep Colour and x.v. Color™ space. Deep Colour provides 10-bit (over 1.07 billion) and 12-bit (over 68.7 billion) colour depths for smooth gradation between colours, while x.v.Color™ compliance reproduces natural, lifelike images.*¹

VIERA Link™

If your home theatre system contains VIERA Link-ready equipment, projection can be started by using only the remote control unit of the projector, regardless of whether the source is a Blu-ray Disc or a TV program stored on an HD recorder. This eliminates the need for hassling with several remote controls.
